HCS/Haryana Public Service Exam Pattern

The HCS/ Haryana Public Service Commission exam will be Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) comprising of three stages.

  • Preliminary Examination
  • Main Examination
  • Interview Round

HCS Prelims:

This prelims exam consists of two papers – General Studies Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II also known as CSAT.

HCS Mains

HCS mains consists of 4 papers i.e:

Interview:

  1. This is the last stage of the HCS recruitment 2021-2022 is the interview. HCS Interview is 75 marks. Candidates who will obtain the minimum cutoff marks will be called to appear for Haryana HCS interview. The shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a Haryana Public Service Commission.
  1. HCS interview aims to test if you are suitable for being appointed as Haryana Civil Service Officer. Your intellectual traits, mental alertness, critical powers of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, the balance of judgment, variety, depth of interest, etc will be judged in this stage.

Stage 1-Preliminary Examination (Objective Type/ Multiple Choice) for screening purpose only. The Preliminary Exam Shall Comprise of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice questions) and carry a maximum of 200 marks as under.

Stage 2-Main Examination (Conventional Essay Type) – As per the previous notification
Candidates qualified in Stage 1 (usually fifteen times the vacancies advertised) are allowed to take the Main Examination.

Candidates will not be allowed to offer the following combinations of subjects:

  • Political Science and International Relations and Public Administration
  • Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
  • Hindi Literature, English Literature, Sanskrit Literature and Punjabi Literature
  • Of the Engineering Subjects viz. Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering-not more than one subject.

Candidates fifteen times the number of vacancies advertised will be admitted to the Main Examination. The question paper for pre-examination will be set in English Only. Candidates thrice the number of vacancies advertised will be selected for Personality Test. Candidates who qualify for the Main Exam will have to apply again on a separate application form which will be supplied by the Haryana Public Service Commission free of cost.

Personality Test /Interview: Candidates who are short-listed in the Written Examination are required to appear for an Interview.
